A little late, but Guardians of Destiny released another episode of Guardian Radio v.5 on Saturday - it's a nice wrapup of the week's news. Go listen!
It's pretty well-known that you shouldn't drop by Bungie's offices unannounced (or even, usually, announced) - they aren't open to the public, and you'll just be wasting your time. Unless, of course, you're Nathan Fillion. Then you can drop by. This, and other interesting info, can be found in this week's Mail Sack - there are some great questions, some silly questions, and answers that span the gamut. There are also a pair of new desktops for your viewing pleasure. (Actually, only the thumbs are in the Sack - the desktops themselves are in the Wallpaper gallery.) Go read, and get pumped - E3 is coming in less than a month!
A rumor whipped through the Twittersphere recently - it centered around an image that purported to be an ad for Destiny of Spirits, a PS Vita flavor of Destiny. For anyone who didn't get the memo, Bungie confirmed that this is NOT real - "when we actually announce something, we'll use our current logo." Thanks to IGN for the debunking, and to our community for the entertaining comments in this thread.
Bungie Mobile App users were recently greeted with a bug fix update for Android and iOS devices - some users discovered that they now had the ability to read and post on the Bungie.net forums directly from the app. According to DeeJ, a small group of frequent forum users have been granted access to the test version of the mobile Bungie.net forums. Don't worry, the update will continue to rollout to more users, eventually. Thanks, Xenos.
Cal Carlson let us know that the 'Art and Stuff' group on Bungie.net is hosting another contest - you must create an original piece of art depicting what you want your Destiny character to look like. Winners will be adorned with awesome swag from Bungie themselves! The deadline is May 21st, so dip your paint brushes (or turn on your digital drawing tablet) and start creating!
This week's Breaking In spotlight shines on Dave Matthews - no, not the South African musician, the 3D artist who works at Bungie. (He DOES make music, though. Just not on company time.) Swing by and see where this long-time industry veteran (he's been working on video games for 21 years) came from, where he's going, and why he thinks Destiny will be something that plays a huge role in your life!
Ragashingo added his story from The DBO Challenge Week 5 thread to the fan fiction archive. In it a group of Guardians discover a hidden vault on Mercury that raises more questions than it answers. Go read!
TD Spiral gave us a peek at this amazing piece from the handful of fan art he made for Laird's charity auction. While this image didn't quite make it into the auction, it's still very impressive! (Full size.)
Laird has posted his latest round of auction items benefiting the Child's Play charity, one item of which should interest Destiny fans. The print pictured above is one of the limited edition lithographs sold from the Bungie store; only 150 were made, but this one is unique in that it has been autographed by a ton of Bungie employees! Check out this eBay page for more details and a look at the rest of Laird's charity auctions - there are some really neat things up for grabs! (Thanks for the heads-up, Xenos.)
Bungie has sounded the horn and put out the call for the latest Mail Sack. Heed its instructions and release your queries!
Well, not really, but Axelrod vK mapped out what he thinks the last remaining city on Earth will look like. By using a map of Puerto Princesa and in-game/concept reference shots from Destiny he was able to map out key points of interest such as the Traveler and the Tower in relation to the surrounding geography. Neat!
This week's mailsack has been posted and it's full of the usual teases, jokes, and amusing anecdotes. Head over to Bungie.net to give it a read, but be sure to tread quietly and watch out for Harold! (Thanks for the heads-up, Xenos.)
The great Guardians at Bungie saw fit to pull back the veil just a touch regarding their new universe, as they have begun beefing up the Destiny section of Bungie.net (they are not Bungie.org). Go and see for yourself new information on story, landscapes, and even some new enemy variants. Can it please be out already?! Go look!
Heh, looks like Bungie has filed a trademark for the term "ViDoc", under the definition of "Audio and video recordings featuring previews and other information about video games". You may recall Urk's full explanation for the term from a Bungie Weekly Update back in 2009:
ViDoc is actually an amalgamation of three terms: visual, informational, and documentation. It’s definitely not an industry term that we would expect you to be familiar with. In fact, we kinda made it up.
The word was first used by Sketch in November of 2006 when hinting at the first ViDoc, "Et Tu Brute?" which was released later that year on December 20th:
Narcogen has posted Episode 27 of the Anger, Sadness & Envy podcast over at Rampancy.net, wherein he chats with Mars Science Laboratory planetary scientist (and Bungie fan) Craig Hardgrove about Marathon, Bioshock Infinite, and everything in-between. Set aside 41 minutes and give this a listen!
It's time for Week 6 of the DBO Challenge! Check this thread for details, then show us your favorite television show through some (intentionally) low-fidelity art! While you're at it, don't forget to read back through Week 5's weapon ideas and all of the crazy stories they inspired.
(If you're in the mood for something off-topic and of a higher-quality than MS Paint usually provides, be sure to check out this gorgeous 10-page preview of "Mayflower", an original comic from our resident artist Leviathan.)
After a late start and a few excuses (wolves?!), DeeJ has opened the Mail Sack for the week. You know how it works: submit some great questions for the Bungie crew and get them answered on Friday!
Destiny Forum is giving away a bunch of Destiny schwag (shirts, mug, poster) - and you can get in on the action by joining their community and telling 'em why you want it! The giveaway is open until May 15, so get over there! (While you're there, maybe vote in their 'What platform would you buy Destiny for?' poll - I find the results pretty interesting, myself!)
The Guardians of Destiny released episode 11 of their podcast show - the crew is joined by YouTuber MoreConsole to discuss the latest Destiny news, including talk of monetization and raids. Go listen!
