As the last year without Destiny comes to a close, we here at DBO would like to wish you all a very happy holiday season, and more specifically a merry Christmas tomorrow. Bungie's holiday card does a great job of summing up our excitement for the coming adventures!
"We don't want to be constrained. We just want to make awesome stuff."
Technical Art Director Ryan Ellis gave an interview to Game Informer in which he describes the growth of the team (and the evolution of the gameplay - did you know Destiny started as a third person shooter?). Go give it a watch! Thanks, Xenos.
It was a couple of days ago, but during this holiday season you owe it to yourself to enjoy fun game-related poetry. Duncan posted 'Happy Holidays, DBO' on our forum, and a reading will allow you to prepare for the upcoming year of release with the right attitude. Maybe have a spiked glass of eggnog by your side!
Bungie art director Christopher Barrett is back with the Game Informer crew breaking down the incredible locations you'll visit around the solar system when you pop Destiny into your disc tray. No word on whether or not GI can be held legally responsible for the damage my drool has now caused my laptop keyboard. Thanks a lot guys. Anyway... GO CHECK IT OUT!
The Guardians of Destiny tackled the latest wave of news from GameInformer in this week's episode of Guardian Radio. Tune in!
Destiny Author dropped by with news of Destiny Dispatch’s Become A Legend Project. It’s a pretty neat idea that will culminate as an eBook full of community fan fiction. If you like to write and you like Destiny, this might be for you - check it out!
Probably one of the best pieces I've seen him do so far, here's the latest from our talented Hedgem0ny:
Today's Bungie Weekly Update focuses on a halloween costume that involves a gorgeous modeled Thorn (unlike the one created by Karin Olava, this one was actually 3D-printed from in-game assets - one of the benefits of working at Bungie)... and it has some interesting fan questions (with some squirrely answers) in the week's mail sack. If you'd rather, you can read it in our Weekly Update Archive. Go appreciate it! And appreciate Xenos, who keeps on top of all of this stuff.
Tyson Green (who came to Bungie from the Myth and Halo communities oh so many years ago) is the subject of the latest Game Informer interview - and his points are truly fascinating! He's the Investment Lead for Destiny, and it's his job to keep you coming back for more. He tries to explain where inspiration has come from other games, and where he feels that other games haven't gone far enough. He directly addresses multiple concerns mentioned on our forums (and elsewhere) - I STILL don't fully understand how it's all going to work, but I'm heartened to know that Bungie understands what makes me nervous, and is actively thinking about those things. Go watch for yourself! Thanks, Xenos.
Game Informer has posted a very enlightening interview with Bungie co-founder and design director Jason Jones. It's a fascinating look at the studio's vision for Destiny, from the inspiration behind the game's core concept to the story goals that drive every aspect of Bungie's world-building efforts. Go read the three-page article and then let us know what you think on our forum! (Thanks for the heads-up, Zero.)
Game Informer sat down with Lars Bakken, design lead on Destiny, to talk all things multiplayer (well, some things). Lars talks about design philosophy, mechanics and how Destiny compares to Halo. If you're not the video type, Ragashingo put together a list of key information.
Tonight’s VGX show treated us to some new (and old) Destiny footage accompanied by a new piece of music straight from the Ivory Tower. There are plenty of tidbits to start over analyzing. Get to work! Thanks, Xenos.
In keeping with standard Friday traditions, Bungie has posted the latest Bungie Weekly Update - it reiterates the newly-announced release date, it reminds people of the latest issue of Game Informer (chock-full of Destiny info), and it answers some useful questions. It even provides the audio for a flaming bung-hole. (That might not be as dirty as it sounds.) Go give it a read: either on Bungie.net or in our own Weekly Update Archive!
roland let us know about the latest episode of Guardian Radio - they're catching up after two weeks off the air, and they've sure got a lot to talk about! Go listen.
If you haven't seen it already, INSANEdrive fulfilled my wish and used yesterday's Game Informer cover as a mock-up for Destiny's final packaging. Clean, crisp, cool - I'll take it!
GrimBrother IV brought to our attention a Game Informer interview with Chris Barrett, Destiny's art director, concerning Destiny's inspirations & evolutions. Go read and watch!
Game Informer revealed today that their January cover will sport three of Destiny's Guardians venturing out from beneath The Traveller. The announcement teases some of the questions that have been simmering among the community for a while, and the accompanying preview video has some new visuals to whet your appetite for the full issue. Go feast your eyes! (Man, am I hungry.)
Martin from Destiny Overwatch whipped up a few Destiny themed Xbox One controllers. If you're the type that likes to match your consoles accessories and your clothing, you might want to check out his faction themed controllers as well - go look!
