DeeJ stopped by to announce a new Bungie Weekly Update - it's exciting. As he says, it's the best one in weeks! (That's funny because there hasn't been one in weeks. Geddit?) Go read it. It'll remind you how to get into the Beta program, and it'll teach you a little bit about The Director. And some other stuff.) As always, you can read (and search) it locally, as well as on B.net.
A few months back Joseph Staten, writer and designer director on Destiny, surprised us with his unexpected departure from Bungie in order “to tackle new creative challenges.†Today, Xbox Studio Manager Mike Ybarra tweeted that Staten is now back at Microsoft serving as Senior Creative Director. Many speculated that this was his return to the Halo franchise, but Polygon reports that Staten isn’t directly involved with the next Halo game.
Joseph is not working directly on the next Halo title. As a senior creative director, he will help create the world's best entertainment on Xbox, as well as help shape our franchise strategy for some Microsoft Studios titles.(Thanks, Mariachi and marmot 1333. And thanks to Frankie for the title.)
Almost four years ago, NsU Soldier noticed some signage in Halo 3: ODST that he thought might be an easter egg pointing to future Bungie development... but it wasn't until today, in a short piece over at GameInformer, that Bungie's Chris Barrett publicly admitted he was right. Cool stuff!
Guardian Radio has returned for 2014! Episode 43 is 2 hours long, and covers the GameInformer info dump, a True/False segment, and some debate about competitive multiplayer - Go listen! Thanks to roland, as usual, for the heads-up.
Cropping this image feels like a criminal act, so do yourself a favor and check out the full-size masterpiece over at illustrator Dalton Pencarinha's tumblr page. Amazing work, Dalton!
tommy1005 is a reddit fan who participated in reddit's Secret Santa 2013 - and he was lucky enough to be paired with someone with access to Bungie's studio. (They also had access to the 343 studio, and tommy1005 also received awesome Halo goodies... but we're talking about Destiny here.) Go check out the signed poster he got... and drool.
A visit to the Destiny subreddit revealed a number of intriguing fan-created goodies - let's take a look, shall we? MoreConsole released his own year-end video that summarized the Destiny info drop that took place in December - even if you watched Datto's summary, you'll find new observations here. Go look!
We recently mentioned Scott Shepherd's upcoming GDC presentation "Building Customizable Characters for Bungie's Destiny", but Scott isn't the only one sharing secret Bungie sauce this March - animator Richard Lico will give a talk on "Designing the Bungie Animation Workflow".The full description of the session promises that attendees will "get to see footage in raw form before it becomes the shiny, polished game released into the wild." Neat!
Winners for the Christmas Fan Fiction contest have been announced in the forum! Go see if you're one of the lucky two, and be sure to read the entries in the original post if you haven't already. Thanks to Ragashingo for hosting the contest and congratulations to the winners!
Now that the holidays are past, I finally had time to look at the fan fiction queue. (I'm embarrassed to admit that a couple of stories have been sitting there for a little while.) We have three new items today: PerseusSpartacus continues his "Introversion on the Key of D Minor" series, kemachiro released the full-length version of "A Hunter's Journey" (and it's hefty, coming in at novella length), and Gilead contributed a charming story about a girl and her robot. Go read!
No news today, but there is always tomorrow...right?
This almost made it to our final post of 2013 - but hey, isn't the first post of 2014 just as good? Datto did a great job of summarizing the Destiny data dump that took place over the course of December - if you worry that you might have missed something, this is the video to watch! Just 8 more months to go - less if you're counting the Beta! Welcome to the year of Destiny.
Over at Bungie.net, Progo held a Destiny Fan Art contest - and last week, posted the winners. Some great stuff in there! Go take a look.
A few days ago, DeviantARTist SilverSonic44 posted a Halo/Destiny-themed Christmas wish for everyone... go celebrate the season!
