Bite-sized Backstory 28: Facts and puzzling things about...
Ragashingo has posted another installment of his Bite-sized Backstory series - this one focuses on little-known facts about the Fallen. (Check out the video that bluerunner found for some details you might not have noticed for yourself, these past 3 years...) We've added this latest article to the BSB Archives here at DBO.
Yesterday, Bungie (well, officially NVIDIA, but Bungie) released the official trailer for the Destiny 2 PC Open Beta, coming at the end of this month. The content doesn't look hugely different from the Xbox/Playstation Betas last month (though Harmanimus did notice a few new tidbits), but it's running at 60 frames per second, and it does look rather nice at that framerate. (The version in our Official Vids archive - which, if you haven't visited in a while, is a bit easier to navigate these days - is also 60fps.) Take a look - and prepare for battle in less than 2 weeks! Thanks, DiscipleN2K.
Stride PR sent word that Destiny 2's Game Director Luke Smith will be delivering the opening Keynote at PAX West 2017, early next month. From the PAX News page, Luke is "going to talk about his path coming up through the gaming industry and hopefully be able to drop some sweet Destiny 2 secrets in there as well." Should be a fantastic talk! If you're going to be there, the Panel Schedule went live today - a quick look showed only one Destiny-related discussion: on Sunday, at 11am, there's a talk called 'Destiny: A Community You Can Count On'. It's predominantly Twitch streamers, but that might be the majority of the Destiny community these days, so it's definitely worth checking out!
Yesterday was Thursday, so Bungie posted some info about how the week went, and what to expect in the near future. This one has lots of tasty bits! There is info from both Lars Bakken and Josh Hamrick, explaining the changes made to Destiny 2 in time for the Destiny 2 PC Beta launching on August 28. There's a reminder that this weekend's Trials of Osiris, starting today, is the last one in Destiny 1 - play it this weekend or don't play it any more! There's info from the Destiny Support team, this time focusing on changes that affect streamers most strongly (clarification of last week's info). And of course there's info on the next Bungie Bounty and some fan-submitted vids. Go check it out! As usual, there's a copy in our archive if that's preferable.
Destiny 2 - Official Competitive Multiplayer Trailer
New maps, new weapons, new Supers, and even a new emote highlight this trailer for Destiny 2's competitive multiplayer. The teams may be smaller, but the fights look no less fierce, so check it out and see what other details you can catch!
It's been a super-long time since our Fan Fiction section received a submission... but that doesn't mean you shouldn't head over and read the latest story, submitted today by HWPD! Check out The House of Mist [Pt.1] now!
It's a quiet week at Bungie, but Cozmo still has an update for you. Highlights include info about the Destiny 2 PC Beta, coming in a few weeks, but there are also the standard features - info from the Support Team, details about the next Bungie Bounty, and fan-made movies. Go check it out! As always, there's a copy in our Update Archive if you'd rather read it here.
Ragashingo is back with a new Bite-sized Backstory installment - this one introduces us to the Fallen. You've fought them for years - now see how much you actually KNOW about them! Go read the newest chapter in our BSB archives:
Breitzen put together clips from DBO community members, collected during last week's Destiny 2 Beta, and came out with a fun-to-watch showcase of domination! Check it out. And let him know what you think, on our forum!
IGN recently asked Destiny fans to ask their most burning questions about Destiny 2, and Project Lead Mark Noseworthy and Game Director Luke Smith have provided direct answers to a number of those questions. Will our Guardians remain mute throughout Destiny 2? How much will Beta feedback influence the final product? When exactly does the raid become available? Answers to most of these questions await!
This week, Bungie has some info for you, and some warnings. In their weekly info dump, you'll find hardware specs if you're interested in trying out the PC Beta in late August, long with details about the new Exotic weapon for Destiny 2 that was revealed this week. They warn you that this is the last week that Trials of Osiris stats will count towards the Age of Triumph book, and that next week is the last Iron Banner event in Destiny 1. (I guess that means that there won't be any D2 IB after D2 launches... sadness.) There's also quite a bit of info about Destiny 2 Clans, and what you'll need to do if you run a Destiny 1 Clan or Group. And of course, there's the standard stuff - lots of info from the Support team, details about the next Bungie Bounty, and a passel of fan-created videos. Go check it all out! (Our local copy is up, of course.)
For the penultimate IGN First feature they talked to Jill Scharr, Jesse can Dijk, and Jon Weisnewski about the brand new exotic in Destiny 2: Coldheart. It's a new archetype of weapon called a Trace Rifle, and it looks pretty awesome! AND everyone who pre-orders Destiny 2 is getting it with their pre-order! Watch the video below (and I added the pre-order trailer as well, thanks Korny):
Exploring The New Survival PvP Mode And Altar Of Flame
IGN's Destin Legarie returns, this time joined by Bungie's Crucible Design Lead, Lars Bakken, on a tour of the new Crucible map "Altar of Flame". Bakken shares plenty of info on a new PvP game mode called "Survival", which looks to be a middle ground between Clash and Elimination. If you want to see what the new gametype looks like in action, ChrisTheeCrappy let us know about this seven minute gameplay video set on Altar of Flame. Looks fun!
In today's IGN First coverage, Bungie's Rituals/Programming Lead Rob Engeln takes a trip to Nessus with IGN's Destin Legarie, in order to discuss and show some of the new activities available in Destiny 2's Patrol mode. Public Events, Lost Sectors, and more are discussed and explored in the clip, so give it a watch! And thanks go to electricpirate for the heads up!
Thanks (once again) to Cody Miller, we've got the three cutscenes that were made available during the Destiny 2 Beta archived, and available for streaming or download in our Video Galleries. Swing by and watch 'em again!
In response to a community request, Korny's been on a capture jag - check this gallery for the concept art that showed during the installation of the beta (these are larger versions, but he explains some of the shortcomings and offers smaller versions in this post), some class loading icons suitable for clean wallpaper, and for some fun, a shot-by-shot comparison of the Tower in Destiny to the damaged/destroyed Tower in Destiny 2. Awesome stuff!
Financial Post sat down with M.E. Chung, the Social Lead at Bungie, to discuss the decisions Bungie has made and is making to make sure Destiny 1 and 2 is rewarding as a social experience without scaring people off. It's a great read, and has some awesome comments on their philosophy for clans in Destiny 2. Go give it a read!
I've seen comments about the ability of Void Warlocks to overcharge their grenade, but it wasn't until I saw Fallout's tutorial that I understood what was actually going on, and what the limits were. (Thanks, Korny, for the heads-up!) Watch this short video for a summary of how the perk works, what you can (and can't) do with it, and what it will cost you. Very cool!
The Cryptarch Can Say 'Blue' in 11 Different Languages
The Beta may be going on, but IGN isn't taking the day off. Today's IGN First feature is a video about the localization of Destiny 2. They sit down to discuss the process and challenges with Steven Reinhart, the Localization Manager at Bungie. Watch the video below:
In a surprise to nobody, the focus on this week's update from Bungie is the Destiny 2 Beta. There's feedback (for you) from devs, there's info on what they hope to get from the data they're collecting, there's help from the support team for players having a less-than-perfect experience. There's also standard stuff, like the Bungie Bounty coming next week, and fan videos (both D1 and D2 are represented). Go read - either on Bungie.net, or in our own archive!
For today's IGN First feature they sat down and talked to Tomonori Kinoshita about the Cabal units that the Red Legion brings to Destiny 2. Looks like all of them have new weapons and new tricks for you to face. Watch it below:
Urk has managed to process and post the latest Bungie podcast (on iTunes, or direct via Bungie RSS) before the Destiny 2 Beta begins tomorrow, so you can go listen to Luke Smith, Mark Noseworthy, Eric Osborne, and Robert Engeln discuss everything from carrying your friends to Chipotle meat goals. Great talk - find 45 minutes and listen! Thanks, electricpirate.
