Gamereactor put up a meaty summary of what they saw at Bungie's headquarters - definitely worth a read. Great quotes from Bungie employees, great breakdowns of the info they were shown. Go see. Thanks, INSANEdrive.
Playstation Access has a fifteen-minute Q&A with DeeJ today - lots of questions, lots of real answers. You should watch. Thanks, Xenos. (Xenos? Who IS that guy?)
Yesterday had a lot of info for Destiny fans - if you didn't have time to follow along as we posted links, swing by DestinyAuthor's recap - he rounded up all the hands-on impressions he could find, and pulled out important tidbits. Could be helpful!
Playstation talks about strikes - and how good you'll feel playing them. Nice news tidbit - if you're at E3, you'll be among the first to get your hands on Destiny's competitive multiplayer. Woohoo! Xenos found it (surprise, surprise).
Eurogamer has both a video preview and a written discussion of what was good (and maybe not so good) about what they saw recently - they sort of felt like Destiny was Halo Plus. Go read, go watch. Thanks (of course) to Xenos.
Bungie just uploaded an intense new video that contains brand new Strike gameplay footage. Check it out!
Gamestop has a new Destiny pre-order "exclusive" today: a quicker, faster, more durable, specially-painted Sparrow (and apparently it's back to "Sparrow"). petetheduck found the news over on GAME.co.uk, and JDQuackers was quick to notice some important small-print in our forum stating the limits of the exclusivity. It sounds like the pre-order bonus will grant you a quickly-upgraded Sparrow that everyone else can obtain by end-of-year. You can check out the 40-second ad spot here:
In anticipation for tomorrow's Destiny news coverage, Bungie deployed two video teases on instagram to help whet appetites. The first video shows off three ships flying in formation and the second video provides a brief glimpse at a map - interesting! Thanks, SigbiasSilva and bluerunner.
UPDATE: Seems there is a third video I missed - doh!
If it wasn't already clear, the information floodgates for the journalists who visited Bungie last week open officially on Monday - PlayStation Access has posted their own teaser of what's to come. (There'll be dozens more by Monday.) Thanks, Xenos.
Should have posted this earlier, but hey - life's busy sometimes. roland let us know that Guardian Radio Episode 58 was released - there's a bunch of discussion about the departure of Marty O'Donnell, and what that might mean for everyone. Go listen - things are sure to heat up soon, and who knows how much time you'll have for the dulcet tones of the Guardian crew?
Breitzen showed off his customized DJI Phatnom 1 VTOL quadcopter in our forums:
Looks cool! But I am a little frightened that if I kill his Guardian in the coming beta he'll send his drone after me in real life...
I'm not at all sure what to write here - so I'll present the facts, as we know them. Last night, Marty O'Donnell, the man behind Bungie's music since 2000 (well, 1997, really), tweeted this:
I'm saddened to say that Bungie's board of directors terminated me without cause on April 11, 2014.
— Marty O'Donnell (@MartyTheElder) April 16, 2014
And a little later, Bungie put up a post on Bungie.net that doesn't really explain anything, but does suggest that the Tweet is not just a joke.
For more than a decade, Marty O'Donnell filled our worlds with unforgettable sounds and soundtracks, and left an indelible mark on our fans. Today, as friends, we say goodbye. We know that wherever his journey takes him, he will always have a bright and hopeful future.
We wish him luck in all his future endeavors.
There are discussion threads all over the net - we have one on our forum, NeoGAF's is fast-moving and huge, Reddit's is growing... if we learn more, we'll let you know.
Whatever this means, it saddens me, personally.
These detailed props from Nerfenstein look beautiful, but my gut instinct tells me we'll need something deadlier than orange foam darts to take down a Fallen Captain! (Nice find, Hedge.)
PlayStation Access is crowdsourcing questions for Bungie for an upcoming interview - watch the video below, then log into YouTube and add your own question to their comments section!
Another in this impromptu 'Wednesday Art Round Up' from our dear Hedgem0ny. This here's a 3D model created by OnyxGiant and posted on his CGHub page. It's an original design inspired by Destiny's Warlock class, with loot, Ghosts, and guns:
Again, good ol' Hedgem0ny does the hard part for us and we reap the rewards of a fancy news post. This time he brings us a beautiful digital painting inspired by Destiny by Jorge Jacinto called "Arrival".
Hedgem0ny knows how to scour the world wide web for great fanart and fills his Twitter with these lovely images. First up is a modded G.I. Joe action figure that the eight-year-old inside me would love to explore a sandbox with. You can see a couple more views on OrionPax9's forum post about his creation here.
This week's recording of Guardian Radio was exceptionally awesome - I should know, because I was there! You can download the episode at the Guardians of Destiny website, or watch a video version (with chat) over on Youtube. Be sure to leave a nice comment applauding the show's sudden rise in quality of guest appearances!
Scott Shepherd (Technical Art Lead for Bungie's 3D Department) presented this year at GDC. The talk, Building Customizable Characters for Bungie's Destiny, is now available on the GDC Vault. In this hour-long presentation, Scott presents a ton of information about the vision and implementation of the character appearance and customization that we will experience in Destiny. The talk itself is about 40 minutes long, with another 20 minutes of Q&A afterward. Very interesting! (Thanks to Xenos for the heads-up!)
If you're itching to get a Bungie tattoo and need design ideas, DeviantART user WolfEyedHero has you covered with a nice selection of symbols lifted from the various gear seen in Destiny's trailers. I suppose you could use these images for other purposes, but until I think of a good one I'll just plan to get this Awoken Hunter symbol inked on my lower back. (Nice find, Hedge!)
