Guardian Radio Episode 24

g_o_d.jpgGuardian Radio episode 24 is live - the crew discuss the latest Bungie mail sack, Destinypedia's interview with Bungie President Harold Ryan as well as the idea of Trolls in Destiny. There's also some interesting Star Wars trivia to check out! Thanks, Roland.

Becoming the Hunter

Special effects guru Karin Olava teased us with her work-in-progress Hunter costume. What's even more impressive is that she built the costume from scratch using only reference shots. As someone who dabbles in costume building and currently has a Hunter banner staring me in the face, I couldn't be more envious of her incredble work. You can check out more of her work on her Instagram page.

Guardian Radio v.5 for August 10, 2013

g_o_d.jpg

If you missed last week's edition of Guardian Radio v.5, you might be unaware of the new direction the gang at The Guardians of Destiny have taken it - while a bit lighter on news, the latest episodes have been host to a charming bit of fan fiction with a hint of radio drama. Go see what the AI "Strauss" has to say in this week's transmission!

Space Battles and Spider Friday

bungie_mailsack.jpg

This mail sack is full of spiders. Seriously, don't touch it - there are enough arachnids in here to make a Devil Walker blush! On the other hand, if you manage to creep past DeeJ's web of words you'll find some interesting anecdotes about life at Bungie during Destiny's development (not to mention a few barrel rolls, death blossoms, and one giant iron superman).

Add a Little Color to Your Fireteam

Cal Carlson from the Bungie.net group "Art and Stuff" let us know that he's made a quartet of simple wallpapers that transform a familiar fireteam into a beautiful splash of color. You can grab the group image above or the three solo portraits from this gallery Cal set up. Polychromatic!

The Law of the Aida Cloth

CraftingGeek is back with yet another Destiny project! This time it's a Law of the Jungle cross-stitch that turned out to be much more challenging a project than she originally anticipated. (I think the end result looks great though!) You can read a humorous account of the hard work that went into this item over at CraftingGeek's blog - there's even a video slideshow showing how everything came together.

Sloping the Floor

edge.png

Xenos pointed out a short article over at Edge that touches on Bungie's desire to counter trolls in Destiny's online interactions. While the piece is low on actual details, there are a few quotes from Chris Butcher that should be interesting to anyone that has rhythmically crouched over a fallen enemy in Halo...

Guardian Radio Episode 23

g_o_d.jpg

If you're looking for a robust discussion of last week's Destiny headlines, head over to The Guardians of Destiny and check out Episode 23 of Guardian Radio. I'm honestly surprised at how smoothly their new "call in" segment went! (Thanks, roland.)

This Hunter's Imaginative Boots of the Vanguard

hope.pngWith the summer busyness, I've been neglecting the fan fiction queue, but I just released five new stories from storytime limbo. Ragashingo submitted a piece called These Imaginative Boots, kemachiro wrote the first part of A Hunter's Journey, and WM has turned in the first three chapters of The Vanguards of Dead Orbit ( 1 | 2 | 3 ). Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy!

Harold Ryan's E3 chat with Destinypedia

boushh.png

It's hard to believe we're still getting content from E3, but T3CHNOCIDE over at Destinypedia has posted an interview he did with Bungie president Harold Ryan. You can listen to the audio (.ogg, 56.9KB) or look through the text transcript T3CHNOCIDE put together. It's a great read, despite the late arrival; Harold shares some really interesting thoughts here!

Liz Bergeron: Hive Destroyer, Ridiculously Good Cook

You're creeping through the dark, musty tunnels of the decrepit Cosmodrome wall when you come upon a pack of Fallen Vandals. Expertly tossing a grenade at their feet, you raise your rifle and unleash a harsh staccato of gunfire... but the creatures do not acknowledge your bluster. One of them walks headfirst into a wall. Enemy AI is a complex system with a lot of room for glitches, and Liz Bergeron's job as Lead Combatants Tester is to make sure you never see it borked. Read the latest Breaking In article to see how she puts Destiny's hostiles through their paces!

You're gonna need a bigger Mail Sack.

bungie_mailsack.jpg

How many rows of teeth does a Cabal soldier have hidden behind that mask? Does the noble Megalodon still prowl the waters of Cape Town, or did he move on to the murky depths of Old Russia? Has the Last City ever been hit by a Fallen Shanknado?

You have questions, Bungie has a Mail Sack. This week's thread is open.

Marty I'm Amazed

Paul, Marty, and Mike

Edge has posted a fascinating interview with Bungie composer MartyTheElder Martin O'Donnell, and though the focus of the article is Paul McCartney's involvement with Destiny, Marty offers some very interesting insights into the future of the game's soundtrack:

I’m hoping there’s enough substance there that as Destiny develops into the future we can keep adapting that score, arranging and growing new themes that are the germs of ideas right now in the suite. That’s the general plan right now. It allowed us to do a purely musical approach that can be adapted over the next number of years.

Check out the full article for more Music of the Spheres teases and the story on how a Beatle came to work on a Bungie project. (Thanks for the spam, Kermit.)

Great Expectations

Xenos pointed out a short blurb on CVG that highlights two quotes from Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg, who mentioned Destiny during an Activision-Blizzard earnings call earlier today:

We strongly believe we are on pace to set the all-time pre-order record for a new IP. [...] Based on what we've seen we believe that Destiny has the potential to become the third active billion dollar franchise in the Activision Publishing portfolio.

Whoa. Hopefully Activision remembers to be nice to the goose!

Fan Art from Destiny Dispatch

The two pieces of fan art you see above come from the folks at Destiny Dispatch, who just launched a new fan site and accompanying podcast. If you like the art style, keep an eye out for more - it sounds like this is only the first wave!

We Humans are Capable of Greatness

The Destiny universe has often been described as "hopeful", and the video embedded above perfectly captures that feel through the clever use of Carl Sagan's inspiring voice. (This isn't his famous Pale Blue Dot monologue, but the quotes are indeed taken from his book Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space.) Credit goes to Bungie.net user LastLastCityBlam, who was inspired by this Halo: Reach fan video. The audio track is originally from this video by Michael Marantz.

Hello, Traveler!

edge_august_cover.jpg

Edge has another preview from their (now available) Destiny-rich issue, this time focusing on what Bungie learned from open-world shooters Far Cry and Borderlands. Joe Staten uses a more respectful tone than the Edge headline would have you believe, but he does mention Bungie's efforts to capitalize on the opportunities those games passed up. As a fan of Borderlands, I think this is very encouraging news! (Thanks, Xenos.)

Wesley Olson: PlayStation Tester, BBQ Master

Wesley Olson

Ground bacon, candied bacon, maple bacon. Did that get your attention? If so, you might enjoy the latest Baconing In-- er, Breaking In article over at Bungie.net. DeeJ grills new hire Wesley Olson on his hiring experience, his personal hobbies, and his knack for setting up PlayStation dev kits. There's plenty to chew on here, so check it out! (Thanks, bacon.)
