There's been a handful of Dave Dunn interviews from the Australian side of game journalism in the last few days. Our local Pony Express rider, Xenos, has so far highlighted two of them in the forums: Gameplanet's "Designing Destiny" and AusGamer's "Interview...". AusGamer also has some concept art/screenshots you may have not seen before in their gallery, like these beauties above and below:
Thanks, Xenos (Gameplanet thread / AusGamer thread). And apologies for the terrible headline, everyone.Awesomely organized by our community members, there are a couple of chances this week to play with friends or soon-to-be friends. Be sure to check these forum posts to to see how to join in on the fun and if there's been any updates/changes.
Tonight:
Thursday:
(Now let's see... Did I mention Halo 3, the Return of the King of the Halo trilogy, is free? Well... It is. NOW GO.)
Meet Melanie, Bungie's German Localization Editor! Go see how many voices she has in her head, as well how she helps Bungie reach even more people on their march to conquest.
Ooh, this is really cool (and another event that makes me sad I don't live anywhere near Seattle): a coming exhibit at the LTD Gallery in Seattle is going to be full of beautiful art from Bungie. Thanks for pointing it out in our forums, broony!
(After a bunch of boring receptions in college, one I'd actually love to go to...)
Guardians of Destiny are back again with another podcast, detailing and discussing the last week's worth of news as well as answering listener's emails. Thanks, roland.
Two new stories went up in the fan fiction site over the weekend. The first is the excellent Destiny: Birthright by Katsuhiro. The second is the first part of SirLock's Last Ones Standing. Go read!
Dave Dunn, Bungie's Head of Art, sat down (under) with IGN to answer a barrage of fan questions. It's mostly familiar territory, but there are a few interesting tidbits that make it worth watching!
We missed this when it was posted last week, but Episode 92 of the Playstation Blogcast continues the podcast's pattern of Bungie love with an appearance by environmental artist Coolie Callahan. Skip to 1:10:30 if you just want to hear the interview, which lasts for roughly 9 minutes. Fascinating stuff!
The new Bungie Weekly Update is up! This week covers Dave Dunn's trip to Australia, another in-house character reset (and the new features that come with it), and gives us a glimpse at the Weekend Champion phenomenon that has been making its way through Twitter for the last few weeks. Go check it out! (Thanks, Kermit!) [edit: Now that there are two of these, it's probably time to unveil our Weekly Update Archive - if you've been with us for a few years, you might recognize some of the code as recycled from the Halo BWU Archives. What can I say? We're lazy. It's okay, though, because this gives you an easy way to find Weekly Update tidbits that stick in your brain, down the road, since it's searchable.]
What would a futuristic Bungie game be without a Fusion Rifle? Swing by Bungie.net to read about the Conduit F3, a weapon that needed damping to be effective ('unstable' is a bad descriptor for a weapon). This puppy has over-penetrating burst fire! Go read more about it.
Our local mailman, Xenos, let us know that Bungie.net (which I hear is a popular site) now has a feature highlighting cosplayer, Karin Olava, whose excellent work we've featured here before.
The latest Breaking In article at Bungie.net is live (thanks to Xenos for pointing it out on our forums). Go discover Mike Poe, lighting artist extraordinaire. Learn how he went from Halo fan to Bungie employee and watch a very cool trailer he made in college showing off his talents.
Hey remember that Warlock I drew a while back? Here's a Titan to go along with it, with a Hunter on its way (she got stuck in a public event I think, she'll catch up).
Click above for a larger version. After that Hunter, maybe I'll look into continuing this series for our villian factions...
Roland let us know that the latest Guardian Radio out now, tackling the big news from last week, as well as the Extra Life community fundraiser!
Edit: Looks like we missed reporting Episode 31, which covered the box art and Joseph Staten's departure, so y'know... don't forget that like I did.
Narcogen and Blackstar take a close look at the Moon trailer for the latest episode of the Anger, Sadness, Envy podcast at Rampancy.net - and they take some time for other recent Destiny news. Pretty interesting discussion! Go watch. Be sure to tell them what you think - either on our forum, or on their own site!
Dan de Board is taking his own shot at designing Destiny-friendly guns... his first entry is 'Open Fire', a machine gun for the Heavy slot. Check out an early render!
Ready Up Live's Greenskull walked through the first Destiny-based Bungie Weekly Update - I suppose if 2 minutes of summary is easier to process than 2,000 words on a screen, this video is for you. Take a look!
I believe this is the first time we've seen this piece of Old Russia concept art! It popped up on the personal CGHub page of Bungie artist Jess van Dijk. I hope those Guardians are wearing thick coats!
If you enjoyed the music from the recent Destiny gameplay video "The Moon", you might be interested to know that it is NOT something created by the golden trio - it's licensed trailer music! Still, the two tracks sound pretty epic:
They're wonderful compositions, but here at DBO we're still patiently waiting for "Music of the Spheres".
If you haven't been keeping up with Craig Hardgrove's "Ghosts and Echoes" series, be sure to stop by the archive page and listen to the latest episode (or read the text transcript) to learn more about Lord Gheritt and his AI, Strauss.
After several years of silence, the Bungie Weekly Update has returned! DeeJ talks a bit about the Beta and we get a great behind-the-scenes look at some of the environment development for the Moon featured in this week's trailer. Oh, and there are some Beta codes, but I'm sure those disappeared before I finished typing this. There's only one way to find out, though!
Well this is easily the cutest Titan you'll see all day! The full-res version can be found over at tomsaville's Deviant Art page. (Nice find, Hedge!)
The Duke MK.44 is a modern masterpiece with its holo sight and hair trigger, so it's no wonder that master prop builder Aslak from Orion Works decided to build bring it to life. Visit this Facebook gallery for a few more shots of the finished hand cannon, but don't forget to check out this WIP size comparison photo. The Forces of the City would be proud!
