The latest Breaking In article has been posted at Bungie.net! Go read about Annie VanderMeer Mitsoda, a member of the Public Events team who will have a hand in crafting the spontaneous developments in Destiny's living world.
A few days ago, Bungie fan Matty Armitage tweeted this excellent piece of Destiny art. Has the Black Garden been overrun by a plague of Spider Tanks? Has the hunter become the hunted?
I missed this earlier, but the PlayStation Blog posted an interview with DeeJ that touched on the classes, weapons, and co-operative play of Destiny. Be sure to look over the comments section for a few extra words from the interviewee!
The latest Bungie Mail Sack was opened yesterday, and the goodies poured out as usual - much of the Q&A focused on Germany and Gamescom, but PAX got some love, too. Go give it a read! (And thanks to INSANEdrive, for picking out some interesting bits...)
Ragashingo is back again with his series, this time examining the enemy of the Guardians we know most about: The Fallen. Go dive into the thread he's started and add your own theories!
aPolishKorean did his own analysis of the Community Thank You video Bungie released on Wednesday - he gets credit for a super-fast turnaround, and there are a number of tidbits he noticed that you may have missed. Go watch!
A significant percentage of DBO's news staff were traveling back home (or cleaning up their home) on Wednesday... which explains how a few items slipped through the cracks that day. (Actually, screw it. It's Levi's fault - he was too busy messing around with his stupid pens and stuff. Or something. I'm docking his pay. Well... I guess he could draw something to make it up to me.) First up: The Guardians of Destiny released Episode 27 of Guardian Radio - lots and lots of discussion, these guys surprise me with the depth of content for a game that is nowhere near out yet! Go listen. (Thanks, roland - both for the heads-up and the rover!)
3D-artist Javelin/Dustin Gagner shared his recreation of a piece of Bungie concept art from their GDC panel to the Bungie.Net Forums. You can check out more views and in-progress shots on his blog. Holy crap.
Destiny Updates continues their in-depth analysis with their microscope aimed at yesterday's Community Thank You video. Teleporting, energy knives, and more insanity. I feel like we've seen more of how Destiny really plays in yesterday's quick glimpse than ever before.
Hedgem0ny, longtime Bungie fan and amphibious storyteller, was reminded of something from Halo 3 at about 30 seconds into the video from yesterday and decided to elaborate:
Hint: it's the memorial hologram suspended in the Halo 3 map, Epitaph. Whatever that structure is in Destiny, it's definitely beaming with the ancient civilizations and mysterious intelligences Bungie is known for... Unless it's just the Fallen's outhouse.
Bungie released a thank-you video today - a two and a half minute slice of memory pie, slathered with delicious teasers of goodies to come. A look back at the last few months of community interaction with Destiny content, topped off with new (and fantastic) music... go watch!
(EDIT: You can also watch this in our video gallery - and be sure to discuss what you see in this forum thread Xenos started! -- ncsuDuncan)
As DBO and HBO slowly returns to its usual livelihood, we'll start to see plenty of write-ups and photos of the always-fantastic experience that PAX is. Bungie has started an album on their Facebook page showing off some of the fans they rallied this weekend. The keen-sighted might recognize our own nscuDuncan in a few of them, as well as some of the Hunter cosplay we mentioned this weekend.
(Bungie also picked up an exclusive Mars Curiosity Hot Weels. Besides wanting one myself, I got to love whenever Bungie connects their own inspiring space exploration to the real thing.)
Actual news? ... I got nothing, sorry. I don't know where Claude keeps his magic bag of secrets. But I did sketch a Warlock to make up for it. Then ruined it with markers. Then scanned it and salvaged it in Photoshop. Whew!
Click above for a larger version. Makes a good wallpaper/lock screen for your fancy mobile gizmos. Hunter, Titan sketch cards coming in the future.Ragashingo continues his weekly tradition (cereal, cartoons, AND wild speculation - how could Saturdays get better?) with a new focus: the why and wherefores of the Solar System's infamous fall after the Golden Age (which was last week's focus). Go read his posts to get caught up on the facts and some of his own interpretations and then jump in on the fun yourself!
Nicolle King decided to craft her own legendary gear and head out to PAX as a Hunter this weekend. You can see a few more photos of the costume on her Facebook or Twitter.
NcsuDuncan (one of our men in the field) also says he's got photos on the way with more cosplay in sight, so keep an eye out!
A few days ago, Bungie rolled out a new update for their Mobile App. Android users have already been hit with it (you now have access to Bungie.Net Forums and Groups), while iOS users will be getting another upgrade soon. Bungie Mobile keeps slowly building - what will it be like when Destiny finally hits?
Personally, I'm imagining Guardians taking selfies in their bathrooms and throwing instagram filters on their photos of the Venus Gardens...but I think I might be wrong.
Jim Ryan, Sony's European head, talked to Metro recently, and confirmed that there would be Playstation hardware bundles involving Destiny. Not a huge surprise - but nice to know for sure! Thanks to Xenos, who found it at PlaystationLifeStyle.net.
Mix took a long, hard look at Out Here in the Wild, the most recent Bungie Vidoc - and stepped through everything he found. Go see what you might have missed!
Update: Mix is busy. He added a new video this morning, discussing the exotic sniper rifle revealed yesterday.
Edge has posted another developer interview with a Destiny team member - this time, it's Joe Staten, and the topic of conversation is how the game will bring worlds to life for you. Pretty interesting read! Thanks, Mr Danger.
There is a new Destiny Drawing Board article up on Bungie.net today. This week's lens scopes in on Closing Time, the sniper rifle we first got a glimpse of in the E3 presentation, even though we didn't know its name at the time. This long rifle is apparently a testament to Destiny's modern graphics engine, so go check out the article to find out why and be sure to nab some beautiful wallpaper while you're at it!
Edge published an interview with Bungie's art director Chris Barrett about building a living breathing world filled with story and history. Chris talks about iteration, influences and striking a balance between a believable but idealized universe. (Thanks, Xenos.)
roland dropped by to let us know that episode 26 of Guardian Radio is out. The crew gather to dissect the latest Destiny ViDoC, "Out Here in the Wild", and talk about Destiny's showing at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. Go listen!
ConceptCody posted this cute lil' guy to the Destiny subreddit today. Go look - I'd love to see a whole series of Destiny Babies from this artist! (Jump straight to the art.)
