The recently-released Bungie ViDoc, Out Here in the Wild, has been pored over carefully by a couple of different sites - Rampancy.net devoted episode 54 of its Anger, Sadness, and Envy podcast to the task, while Destiny Updates spent nearly half an hour looking at every detail. Watch 'em both!
A Swedish company known for its automatic 3D optimization solutions, Donya Labs, announced recently that Bungie is using its 3D optimization middleware, Simplygon, in its development of Destiny. This probably tells SOMEONE something... feel free to speculate on our forum!
Pete Parsons spoke to GamesIndustry International - it's a great interview for showing how high Bungie is shooting with this IP. They're not planning to build the next game - they're planning to build the next DECADE of games, and they're pretty excited about it. (Our forum is a bit skeptical, all told - but maybe that's healthy. Make 'em earn that respect!)
Majestic Maverick shared his thoughts on what was shown of Destiny at Gamescom - he seems thoroughly impressed.
Not since the original Halo have Bungie captured such a feeling, but with Destiny, it looks like they’ve successfully created an exciting and intriguing universe, one that could potentially be the next big industry changing title, and I really can’t wait to experience it first-hand.
Consider me thoroughly excited!
We hired a private eye to investigate the Gamescom Destiny booth. Our first choice was private investigator Gene Parmesan, but we felt a little uneasy when he kept showing up as Claude. That's when we called on our German informant, Hypertrooper, to scope things out. We see your every move!
invsmchn continues to create incredible works of Destiny fan art - his latest creation is a Warlock themed midtop shoe and it's everything your feet could ever ask for. Eat your heart out, Marty McFly.
Destiny is a universe filled with mysteries for us to uncover, but why wait for the game to release to start unraveling the unknown? Ragashingo put together a speculation thread that takes a closer look at our mysterious past - grab your deerstalker hat and join in on the conversation!
Looks like your friendly neighborhood community managers wasted no time at Gamescom - there are a bevy of interviews popping up around the internet covering the latest batch of Destiny reveals. Here's what we know of so far:
It's nice to know these guys would never run around and desert you!
PAX is only a week away - are you going? DBO's first official PAX dinner will be at Lunchbox Laboratory on Saturday, August 31st from 7:00pm to 11:00 pm. Check out this forum post for the full list of details, then head over to this thread to discuss the event. See you there!
TTL Bjorni was able to experience the latest Destiny goodness first-hand, at Gamescom this week - and he wrote up his experience at Tied the Leader. There are even some codes from the trading cards Bungie was distributing (though I'm not sure what you're supposed to do with them). Go live vicariously! (Then tell him what you thought on our forum.)
Greenskull, from ReadyUpLive, has already released an analysis video of the Out Here in the Wild ViDoc - watch it to see if you've missed anything!
More news from Gamescom: Urk sat down with Shaun McInnis of Gamespot to talk about how Destiny empowers players to explore the game and create their own story. The two briefly discuss a tidbit from the new (and still unreleased) ViDoc - it sounds like players will have some sort of "super attack". Fascinating!
The folks over at VG24/7 got their hands on some new Destiny screenshots to share with those of us that couldn't make it to Gamescom. These images cover the same areas we saw back at E3, but each one offers a gorgeous view of this beautiful game; that water looks amazing! (The VG24/7 article also has a Destiny fact sheet, but all of the info contained within has been previously released in some form.)
The Guardians of Destiny have unleashed another episode of Guardian Radio, with "My Name is Byf" filling in for an absent Watts. The gang talks about the latest Bungie news before reading through a collection of listener emails and forum posts. Give it a listen! (Thanks, roland.)
There is a fresh infusion of fan fiction today. WM continues with Chapter Four in The Vanguards of Dead Orbit series, and kemachiro adds the next part in A Hunter's Journey. PerseusSpartacus then sets the stage for Destiny with Revival of the Past. Go read!
Ragashingo started a thread on our forum after visually connecting two pieces of Destiny concept art, but an observation from Pyromancy refocused the conversation onto the translation of the Fallen alphabet seen in various posters, shirts, and other media. It's no surprise that the two investigators (and a few others) have already made some interesting progress. There's always more to discover, though, so stop by the forum thread and see if you can lend a hand!
The folks over at The Guardians of Destiny have released another edition of Guardian Radio v.5 - Strauss continues to sort through fragmented messages and memories, but still manages to mention a few news highlights from this past week. Go listen!
Podcasts and passports and psychics, oh my! The weekly Mail Sack has landed over on Bungie.net, and with it a fresh peephole perspective into life at everyone's favorite Destiny developer. Next week's Gamescom will keep DeeJ a little bit busy, so this is the last Mail Sack until PAX.
Bungie announced this morning that Destiny will be making an appearance at gamescom 2013, which opens its doors next week in Cologne, Germany. If you happen to be in the area, the show runs from August 22nd through the 25th for the general public. Destiny can be found at the Activision booth and will be on display on a 3-story-tall screen!
In addition, Bungie has put together a gorgeous life-size statue of a Fallen Captain for the event and show-goers can have a photo op with the foe-to-be. Be sure to check out the "Making of the Fallen Statue" video for an impressive look into the process of building the statue (those glowing eyes!).
Bungie today kicked off a new Bungie.net feature they're calling Destiny Drawing Board by profiling an exotic pulse rifle named Red Death. And what an apt name it is, this thing just looks visceral!
We get a gorgeous wallpaper, some nice background about the history of the weapon and its development, and a sneak peek at what it'll look like in-game for those Guardians lucky enough to win it from their enemies.
I'm definitely looking forward to more entries in this series! (Thanks, Grim IV).
Creative Screenwriting has posted an interview they did with Bungie writer Joseph Staten during E3. It's pretty short and covers much of the same ground as previously posted E3 chats, but Joe has a way with words that makes every conversation sound fresh and exciting. (Thanks, marmot 1333.)
We all know Destiny is going to have a plethora of weapons in a wide range of shapes and sizes, but it's easy to forget that each firearm needs a carefully crafted reload animation (or at least a cooldown sequence). David Helsby is a member of the Bungie team responsible for creating first-person animation for Destiny, and he sat down with DeeJ to discuss his unconventional work history (and how that lead to him Breaking In), his Unicorn-enabled commute, and the intricacies of a melee animation. Give it a read!
