It's July 7, otherwise known as Bungie Day, and Bungie's got a boatload of info for you. Here's what's on tap:
Linked in almost every single page mentioned above is the new Destiny Official Beta Trailer, which is more than 2 minutes long and chock-full of new tidbits to pore over. We've embedded it below, but you can, of course, find copies in our Official Video collection, for future use. Happy Bungie Day!
Yesterday, Ragashingo stopped in with a new Speculation Saturday - it's been more than 9 months since his last one! He's decided to look at the difference between what we knew then and what we know now... and it's a pretty interesting comparison! Give it a read, and then toss in your own two cents!
IGN posted a trailer teasing the coverage they'll have of Destiny starting this Monday, July 7. Pretty exciting stuff! Thanks, SigbiasSilva.
Even more cool fanart, again thanks to DaDerga - who found it via a Destiny Dispatch tweet, this time around. OverwatchGraphics has a whole collection of Destiny-themed wallpapers; go see what you can use!
Did you learn all there was to learn from the Grimoire when the Alpha was around? Ragashingo pulled some info together... and then BeingU pointed out a reddit thread containing a pretty thorough collection. Go explore!
INSANEdrive brought our attention to some fan-created minimalist box art for Destiny, both PS4 and Xbox One versions. You'll find links to all flavors in this post at Bungie.net (thanks, DaDerga) - really nice stuff.
Thanks to a delightful case of West Nile (thank you, Mother Nature), I've gotten behind again on the fan fiction queue. Ragashingo's been busy, in the meantime, and has submitted three new pieces. The first, "No Longer Afraid", appeared on our forum a couple of weeks ago and follows up on one of the characters he introduced a while back. Fair warning: the ending is a wee bit... dark. (I quite liked it.) The next two, "Little Lights in the Darkness" Parts One and Two, follow the origins of a new Guardian, driven by a need to protect her sister. All are high quality reading, so go check 'em out!
roland stopped in to announce that Guardian Radio Episode 67 is now online, in a variety of formats. They've got a new staff member, Fenix, and he was present during this 'cast. Discussion focused on the latest Bungie Weekly Update offerings, though as always there's additional fun. Go listen!
The whole dancing in Destiny thing is looked at by IGN (video below, but it's the writeup that's full of good info). Go see what it's all about! DaDerga pointed this out on our forum yesterday, but hey, it's summer.
TechRadar has a fun piece in which Eric Osborne reassures fans worried about a low level cap in Destiny that there will be more than enough to keep them entertained:
"We've named a raid, but that's just one of the examples of the kind of stuff we want to give player," he said. "Once they reach what they believe is the peak in the game, then we really just want to blow their minds with a whole bunch of crazy, like, 'Now go try that!'"
Not too much longer to wait until we get to experience that for ourselves! Thanks, bluerunner.
We've probably posted too many Dancing Guardians in the Alpha videos... but hey, here's one more with a dance pyramid! Thanks, Paddy.
GamesBeat has word of a new report from Cowen Research - based on their analysis, they believe that Destiny could be the biggest game of 2014. (Dean Takahashi, the writer for GamesBeat, was surprised at this prediction - he was pretty unimpressed by what he saw at E3 this year.) Thanks to electricpirate for the heads-up.
Cozmo23 (who moderates the /r/destinythegame subreddit, and is part of the Tied the Leader group) put together a fantastic montage from his time in the Destiny Alpha - check it out. (Anyone who participated in the Alpha probably ran into roving bands of TTL guys - and most of us got our butts kicked, a testament to the power of team play.)
That Sussman guy is everywhere today! Looks like Jason Sussman sat down with The Escapist, too - it's a 10-minute video interview in which Jason hints at the depths of the environments we'll be exploring. It's a fascinating talk - go catch up on the tidbits you might have missed over the last couple of weeks!
The Guardians of Destiny got together again last night, and recorded Episode 66 of their Guardian Radio podcast - swing by to hear all the discussion about the E3 reveals, the lowdown on the Playstation Exclusive content, the speculation about how it's all going to come together! (There's also a pretty funny little radio promo.) Thanks, as always, to roland, for keeping us in-the-know. (Multiple link options in his forum post.)
Pete Parsons spent a few minutes with GamesIndustry.biz at E3, discussing where Destiny came from, and where it's going. It's hard to read his answers and not feel his enthusiasm for the title. Go see! Thanks again, DaDerga.
Jason Sussman discussed Half-Life 3 (and maybe a little Destiny) with the folks at GameZone - it's a great read! Swing by for info about the philosophy of a public Alpha, how Halo figures into things, and how Destiny's persistent world will work (among other things). Thanks, DaDerga.
TheReachWay and Snabobo teamed up to put together a slick Destiny Alpha montage showing off their FPS skills - and TheReachWay's video editing skills! Check out "Dawn".
David S. was one of the fans who jumped into the short Destiny Alpha last week - but he was so disappointed when it ended, he did what most other fans didn't; he wrote (and sang) a parody song to commemorate his experience. Go listen.
The last segment of the Anger, Sadness, and Envy Special Look at the Destiny Alpha went live today - narcogen let us know that Rampancy.net's coverage of the Alpha Strike is up. Check it!
Stephen Laughlin spent some time in the Tower while playing the Destiny Alpha - and he's got some great NPC dialogue to show for it. Go watch!
Shacknews had some fun with in-game emotes during the Alpha. I feel all warm and tingly now.
