I love Stuntmutt.

Avoiding Motion Sickness

polygon.pngPolygon has as a nice article on one of the Destiny-related talks given at GDC this year. David Helsby, Destiny's Senior Animator, went in-depth on how the first-person animations were created to be smooth but realistic, and at the same time, not induce motion sickness in the player. Interesting read! VG24/7 also has an article on the talk. Thanks CruelLEGACY.

Reverse Engineering the Shaders

uberfoop decided to see if he could figure out how Bungie was handling real-time reflections off of water, based on the problems he noticed. According to Veegie... he did pretty well. I love seeing speculation like this... and I love it even more when Bungie devs play along. Check this thread out!

Open House, Summarized

Did you miss Bungie's Developer Open House on Friday? Never fear, a faithful redditor, Doomsaw616, did a great job of summarizing the results.  (Key points plus links if you want to read the responses yourself are all available.) Go catch up! (Thanks, Xenos.)

Operation Supply Drop - Going On NOW!

So first off, I'd like to apologize for the incredibly poor timing of this post; the event described herein is going on RIGHT NOW. You should swing by the Twitch Stream to watch the shenanigans, or visit the donation page to throw in your two cents (or two bucks, or really whatever you can spare). Donate to what, you ask?

Operation Supply Drop is a charity organization set up to provide recreational support to US and NATO troops around the world. The 2015 8-Bit Salute is looking to raise $5,000 from the Destiny community - and they're well on their way (almost $2,000 so far). Go watch them streaming Destiny for the next 24 hours or so - and help out with a great cause, if you can!

We know about this because LadyDesiree stopped by a couple of days ago, and posted a new arrangement she'd recorded - 'Cabal Stomp', on piano. This, like her other arrangements, rocks, and we're sorry it took so long to highlight it - and the event she created it for. Go watch, go listen!

Mission to Mars - Bungie Ride-Along

Bungie continues to release some fascinating Ride Along videos, this time covering Mars with Deej, Jason Sussman, and our friend Roland. There's plenty of enlightening conversation on everything Mars-related, Cabal to rocks, as well as some hitherto unseen concept art and early shots that led to the Buried City we now know so well.

Highlights from an Iron Lord

CruelLEGACEY dropped off a fun highlight reel of action collected from this week's Iron Banner. Makes me wish I had more free time!

He also posted some neat fanart of his Warlock.

Let's Play Destiny Co-Op #48: End of Crota Part 5

Rampancy and crew switch up their strategies in their battle against a lord of death.

Opening the Array

Hedge also tweeted about Dorje Bellbrook updating his ArtStation. There's a couple of great early sketches and linework of the Cosmodrome like what you see above, plus there's some fantastic views of how the 'The Last Array' you activate at the end of the Earth story missions came to be. I really like the painted variant in the link.

Duel Wielding Your Destiny

Hedge tweeted this exciting piece of fanart by Springs. Fun idea! The artist also has another Destiny piece in their gallery featuring a Titan relaxing at the Tower as well.

Cogniting the Terra

A recent Community focus on Bungie.net was shined on TerraMantis, the creator of the impressive 'Crota, the Light Eater' piece we mentioned a couple of weeks ago. It's an interesting read... because TerraMantis is an interesting person. Check out Parts 1 and 2 of his '10 Things You Don't Know about Destiny' series, below.

Rocket Envy

Ooh, almost forgot this - found it yesterday. Check out the Lego Gjallarhorn created by ZaziNombies... it's simply gorgeous. In the thread on our forum about it, slycrel suggested you check out his 'The Last Word' model, too. (He's right.)

Scaling the Walls You Build Yourself

One of the things that tickles me the most is how people find creative ways to challenge themselves within the confines of a game environment. Two examples surfaced this week that I really enjoyed. WiLLiSGaming and crew successfully completed the Vault of Glass with a Sparrow (think about that for a minute)... while DattoDoesDestiny and friends made Crota kneel using only the exotic weapon No Land Beyond. (This is akin to knocking down a building with a Tonka bulldozer.) When the game doesn't provoke you enough out of the box... don't worry, there's always some new mountain to climb! (Thanks to Gamespresso for the heads-up on the first video, and to Korny for the heads-up on the second video.)

Destiny, on sale

Still need a copy of Destiny? (Or maybe need another one for a second console?) The Xbox Store is currently having a sale - Destiny is available for $40.19 for the Xbox One or 360, or bundled with the first two expansions as the Destiny Digital Guardian Edition, for $67.49. Not a bad deal!

Bungie Ride-Alongs - learn more today!

Last week's Ride Along with the Dads of Destiny didn't get any front-page lovin' when it happened - but if you're a Destiny fan, you should defintely watch it. Lots and lots of behind-the-scenes tidbits on the making of the game and the development of the Cosmodrome from Lead World Artist Rob Adams. If you like this sort of thing, they published another one just a week earlier, with MoreConsole and World Artist Blake Low, focusing on Venus. If this schedule keeps up, there'll be a new one this Friday. They're streamed live on Twitch, so you can watch in real time - or you can enjoy them after the fact, on your own schedule (the Venus one is here, the Earth one is here). Spectacular!

Iron Banner Is Live

iron_banner.jpg

Just a little reminder that the Iron Banner is back on again at the Tower (I had completely forgot it was happening), so if you're in need of some +36 light armor, now's your chance. More details at Bungie.Net here, and a DBO forum thread here.

Let's Play Destiny Co-Op #47: End of Crota Part 4

Rampancy has now reached the true embodiement of Crota and begin their attempts at taking him down.

Let's Play Destiny Co-Op #46: Ir Yût Deathsinger

Rampancy continues their campaign to finish Crota's End in part 3 of their Raid videos.

"Another witch has crossed our path-- Ir Yut, the Deathsinger. Until we defeat her, we cannot attack Crota. We have to survive her dark liturgy of ruin."

Crota Timer Makes Raiding Easier

Man Up Time, a small development studio founded by old-school Bungie fan (and bungie.org staffer) Bruce Morrison, has released an iPhone app called 'Crota Timer'. It's free, and it does exactly what it's supposed to do - it makes it simple to figure out when Crota moves. Go grab a copy!

More Renders from Bungie

Dance club owner and Reach survivor, Claude Errera, let the forum know about a Reddit thread collecting some recent postings of 3D artists that worked on Destiny. We've mentioned Mark Van Haitsma recently, but there's definitely new stuff to be seen in David Stammel, Rajeev Nattam, and Milton Cadogan's ArtStations.

Lessons from Warframe

Korny also put together a nice video comparing factions in Warframe and Destiny and points out what Bungie might be able to gleam from how Warframe handles these elements. Interesting watch.

HUDless Screens of the Vault of Glass

CruelLEGACEY has taken advantage of a split-second delay that occurs after exiting the menu wherein your HUD has yet to appear to capture some screenshots of the Vault of Glass. There's some neat shots in his gallery and it's just plain refreshing to see screens without distractions. Here's to a Theater mode in Destiny 2!

Dads Versus Crota

The Bungie Bounty is on a mystical, satanic creature this week - Crota himself. The Dads of Destiny, alongside three Bungie representatives including Urk, will take a step into the darkness and see if they can emerge victorious at 8:30 PM Pacific. You can watch via Bungie's Live Stream. (Thanks Pete)
