It's Friday, and you know what that means, right? A new Mail Sack awaits your perusal over on Bungie.net! Bungie is running ever more silent as E3 approaches, but the Community asks some interesting questions about inspiration, the development cycle, and life at Bungie in general, among others. Give it a gander, and then take the weekend to prepare a new salvo of questions for Monday!
For the one month anniversary of the Art and Stuff group on Bungie.net, cal carlson decided to break out his digital wand and bring the landscape of Venus to life - I wouldn't mind going on a trek of Venus.
For those of you lucky enough to snag a ticket, mastrbiggy started a thread in our own forum where folks are making plans to meet up and gather in the Emerald City. Bungie also tweeted today to let folks know that there's a Bungie.net group for PAX. If you're going, be sure to check these out and prepare to represent the Seventh Column en masse!
The folks over at Guardians of Destiny released their 8th podcast, like clockwork - must have been Tuesday yesterday! Topics include Joe Staten's interview with X360 magazine, last week's Mail Sack, and feedback from listeners. This one's 90 minutes - go listen! (And thanks, Cambone.)
Bnet user thesharpspoon pointed out a few screenshots of some characters that you may have missed (I know I did) from the GDC Character Development trailer.
OXM UK has posted a new interview with Joseph Staten, wherein they discuss a myriad array of topics surrounding Destiny (including the fate of Tweet # 6!). Definitely worth a read, and then jump into the discussion over in the forum! Thanks, for the heads-up, excowboy83.
It's a few weeks later than others, but AusGamers.com has posted their GDC interview with Christopher Barrett and Joseph Staten today. While it touches on many elements we've already heard about in other GDC interviews, they certainly cover a few fresh angles that make it an interesting read.
We had two new pieces of fan fiction submitted last night. roland wrote a story called Stellar Conjunction that gives a fascinating look at a possible origins story of the Destiny universe; and Mix continues his Destiny Awaits series, where his protagonist has an explosive encounter with the enigmatic Vex.
Greenskull, from ReadyUpLive, has released a recap of the last two Bungie Mail Sacks - watch to see if you missed anything!
It's Monday and that means DeeJ is looking for community questions for this week's mail sack. Head on over to the Bnet forums and ask away!
It's Friday again, and while Bungie is in the midst of another scheduled crunch, they've taken the time to drop another Mail Sack on Bungie.net for our enjoyment. As always, there are some great questions from the Community; and while there are precious few hard details in the responses, some of DeeJ's musings certainly raise a few questions this week!
In the latest Breaking In article, DeeJ asks graphic designer Elliott Gray what it's like to show up for your first day of work and immediately start crunching. Elliott has some great advice to share, so be sure to give this a read!
Gamasutra has posted their version of the Destiny talk Bungie gave at GDC this year, in their GDCVault - for free. It's a different layout than the Gamespot vid we've all seen - it allowed me to grab a few better concept art shots for our GDC Concept Art Gallery, and it's never a bad thing to have multiple sources of great content. Go take a look!
Updated the Leaderboard's data,
and gave out Steam codes for a beta.
The Challenge this time?
Earn armor through rhyme!
(I hope I'm not getting too meta.)
Xenos noticed yet another new interview with Joseph Staten over on x360magazine.com. Man, that guy's been busy! Some great talk about Bungie's approach to developing and defining Destiny, persistence and customization of your Guardian, storytelling, and a few other tidbits. Go give it a read, then sound-off in the forum!
threesided presented the Bnet forums with a work of art titled, The Exchange - threesided even included the "Blue Gold" from the GDC Destiny concept art. It's amazing how one static image can tell so much story. Feast your eyes!
Guardians of Destiny have put out their 7th podcast - this one continues the speculation based on the GDC content, as well as Craig Hardgrove's discussion of shooters and their draw. It's more than 2 hours (again). Go listen! Thanks, Cambone.
When a thread appeared last month on our forum from stevrrr, the maker of the recently released 'Gnop' tribute, there was excitement when talk turned to the idea of a remake for Pathways into Darkness. It was very, very hard to keep my mouth shut at that point, knowing that just such a remake was already in the queue at the Apple Store... but I did what I was told, and said nothing. Approval took a little longer than expected (even though this remake had Bungie's blessing, Apple needed to be thorough), but it's available for download now, and if you have a Mac, you should grab a copy. It is free, it has been lovingly crafted by the same people that brought you Marathon on Xbox LIVE Arcade, and it plays EXACTLY as I remember it. My hat goes off to Mark Levin and Bruce Morrison for this blast from the past! (And be sure to swing by pid.bungie.org, which is still maintained by Hamish Sinclair and will almost certainly be seeing new traffic soon!)
The Fan Fiction section is already starting to fill out nicely! Most of the stories that were originally posted on the forum have now been archived, and over the last few days, four new stories have been added. Go check 'em out!
Gamespot visited a handful of Seattle based game studios, including Bungie, to find out what makes the area so attractive to developers (it's obviously the weather.) Go find out what they have to say!
DeeJ opened up another Mail Sack thread on the Bnet forums - if you have a question about Destiny, the studio or Tiger Man, now's the time.
Firestream released his entry for the recently announced Destiny art challenge - it's Destiny re-imagined as an SNES game!
Over at Guardians of Destiny, there's a pretty interesting essay by Craig Hardgrove, discussing why all shooters aren't the same. (Sort of.) Really, it's a look at why the IDEA of Destiny has him excited - and what it might all lead to. Go check it out!
