Destiny's Year One is about to leave behind levels associated with your gear. Game Informer says it well:
Players earn XP by killing monsters, completing missions, and turning in bounties, as has always been the case, but that experience now feeds directly into your level progression all the way from 1 to the new level cap of 40."
The article also touches on a revision to the loot-drop system: it will now check your existing gear so you won't keep seeing repeats and more. (Thanks Speed.)
Destiny's new expansion will be this month's cover article for Game Informer. They'll be teasing out all the tidbits they learned from Bungie as time goes on at this hub page. We'll hit the highlights here in a moment, but just from their cover-reveal article once can gleam a number of things (as Speedracer513 points out), like new in-game cutscenes!
Stuntmutt's crossing the streams today. Happy Friday!
DeeJ enjoyed the Community's reaction (and creations) after the Foundries were shared last week, so he decided to share a LOT more art with us. Nineteen of Bungie's incredibly talented artists' online portfolios were posted to show the awesome work they've done (and are doing) for Destiny's design. Go take a look!
Oops, this one fell through the cracks, but thanks to Ragashingo for reminding us. CruelLEGACY posted an excellent strategy guide for taking on Skolas in the Prison of Elders a while back. But Skolas is still out there and breaking people's controllers so it's still relevant! Read this post - reference video included!
Stuntmutt thinks Bungie is funnier than he is (check today's Xur offerings), but he still served up a comic for you today.
The DBO admins got together over the weekend and recorded an episode of The Starside Lounge! Episode 4 covers the last couple weeks of Destiny and Bungie news, including Bungie Day and Moments of Triumph, UI updates, Community management changes, weapon balancing, and, of course, fashion tips for your Guardian! You can listen on YouTube, or with your favorite podcast app by subscribing to our feed!
Although my wallet's been dreading it, my heart's been waiting impatiently for it! Hedge retweeted an announcement by 3A concerning a highly-articulated (and steeply-priced) Titan action figure. It looks beautiful - I can't wait to see more high quality licensed stuff like this for Destiny. More photos and info here.
We mentioned this beautifully-rendered digital comic a while back. Here's an update of the pages Jake has published since. Click the image to go to the full page. Great stuff!
Stuntmutt was complaining about the heat...
From Stuntmutt:
Must have resulted in a ton of codes.
All of which had already been used by reddit forumgoers.
It's July 7th again, and Bungie is celebrating! For those that don't want to read the whole article:
How did you celebrate Bungie Day?
This came in yesterday, but... well, here. Thanks, as always, to Stuntmutt.
Yes, it is just as amazing as that title suggests. Discovered through Hedge's Twitter curation, Exotic Watermelon Exo is both beautiful and hilarious, not to mention an excellent piece of fanart by artist Jake Myler (@Lazsummerstone). I hope there's many more!
Playstation is kicking off a new series of interviews, called 'Conversations with Creators'. They look to be roundtable discussions with Wil Wheaton as the moderator. Episode 1 will feature Bungie, with Jason Jones, Luke Smith, Ryan Ellis, and Jason Sussman participating. It airs on July 7, and the official page has just a Wheaton-hosted promo... but Facebook has a 90-second excerpt from the interview itself - this looks to be fantastic!
First look at episode 1 of Conversations with Creators, featuring the Bungie team that created Destiny. Series premieres July 7th! bit.ly/1C9a14j

This thread introduced me to a really cool group of crazy people at reddit - folks who created hybrid sparrows based on weapons. I want ALL of these. I'm not positive there aren't more, but here's what I've been able to find:
I love each and every one of these. The creativity of the community thrills me. See them all in the gallery below!
Cody Miller has fleshed out our Destiny Cutscene Library with a few missiong pieces - we now offer The Dark Below Introduction, the House of Wolves Introduction, and the Intro to The Reef. All are available to stream (if you just want to watch them) or to download in 360p, 720p, or 1080p, for use in projects, all with 5.1 surround sound audio. Go check 'em out!
Funkmon dove into three popular inventory management systems created by fans (and running outside the game) to show you the pros and cons of each, and help you streamline your gear management in Destiny. It's a fantastic read - check it out!
Narcogen let us know last week that Rampancy's Let's Play Destiny jumped into a House of Wolves mini-mission - Skoriks Archon-Slayer. Go watch!
The DBO Starside Lounge is making a comeback! Beorn is joined this month by Claude, Mastrbiggy, Xenos, and Leviathan as we talk about Destiny: The Taken King, distill some details from the E3 show floor, pontificate about pricing, and wax whimsical about our Destiny wishes.
You can catch it on YouTube via the video below, or listen on our Starside Lounge page. The iTunes/RSS feed should be updating shortly, as well. Sit back and relax in the Starside Lounge, then sound off in the forum!
There are several editions of Destiny: The Taken King available for pre-order, and each has its own features and price point. It's easy to get them mixed up, but Black Six has our backs! He put together a nice, easy-to-digest chart of the various Taken King editions, complete with pricing and feature breakdown. If you or anyone you know is confused about which version to order, we've got your answers right here!
Stuntmutt drops by with another wild and wooly Vault of Farce:
