Looks like Microsoft is going to allow pre-loading on the Xbox One after all! Looking on the Xbox One store you can see the game is now available for digital preorder as well as new text that says:
"Xbox One Game expected to release on 9/9/2014. You may download the game from Xbox Live before then, but it will not be playable until 12:01 AM PDT/3:01 AM EDT on the release date."
Update: Microsoft clarified the preloading and preordering for Destiny: "We're thrilled to make Destiny available for pre-order and pre-download for Xbox One owners around the world. This option was available for a short period of time before the official pre-order window opened. We'll have more details to share soon about the pre-order and pre-download window for Destiny."
The Playstation Blog recently talked to Jonty Barnes about the Beta and discusses some interesting mindsets they had, especially with how seriously they were taking reactions from the beta and also the kind of things they do plan on changing (or already changed most likely at this point) before release.
The Inquisitor points out the fact that since Bungie announced that the Destiny servers are going live on September 9th on the International Date Line, the game could technically be played before the official US release...if you somehow already have a copy.
(Note: DBO Health and Safety does not advocate breaking street dates.)
Last Saturday, Ragashingo continued his revival of the Speculation Saturday series of write-ups, this time focusing on the Vex. What do we know already? What can we infer from that? And what crazy, possible conclusions can we jump to? As always, good reads.
Gamasutra interviewed Jason Sussman about the art direction of Destiny, and since Bungie's departments work very closely he talks a lot about design and gameplay decisions. (INSANEdrive also pointed it out on the forum)
DeDerga let us know that ThreeA, one of the companies who has made Halo Action Figures in the past, just announced 1/6 scale Destiny Action Figures! No details at all so far. I'm personally curious about how customizable they'll be given the nature of Destiny.
In the last couple of weeks there's a been a handful of articles, interviews, and news that have fallen through Vex time portals here at the DBO offices. Let's remedy that, shall we?
If you have access to a 3D Printer (still waiting for them to be renamed Replicators, myself), you can print off your own Duke Mk.44 thanks to Kirby Downey at MyMiniFactory. Thanks to Bluerunner for pointing it out.
On a related note, Mid7night came across a host of models you can order at Shapeways by Brickinator99, including armor and weapons, as well as a mini-Ghost for LEGO-sized figures.
In our forum Kermit pointed out a photo from JohnyOThan of some giant Guardians watching over Times Square. Claude also pointed out another view posted to Geoff Keighley's twitter.
You may have already seen pieces of this, but here's a gameplay video that fell through the news-cracks last week. There's definitely some fun moves in here ready to be recreated in Septemeber!
Thanks, INSANEdrive.
CM Roach cobbled together a montage of the animated concept art we've seen sprinkled throughout Bungie videos and set it to some ambient music. Nice way to immerse yourself in the art direction for two minutes. Originally sighted on Reddit by Lord Owen.
There's been some debates on our forums lately about Raids lacking matchmaking. Brenna Hillier over at VG247 wrote an interesting article about why Raiding in Destiny is not for everyone. Obviously won't end any debates, but she makes some interesting points.
Gamereactor interviewed DeeJ at Gamescom about some things to expect in Destiny when it launches. Interesting information in there, such as the confirmation of checkpoints in Raids, but the checkpoints won't last forever.
SigbiasSilva pointed out the Official Destiny Launch Gameplay Trailer posted by Bungie today. Can you believe the game launches in less than three weeks? Thanks SigbiasSilva!
Eurogamer sat down with Jonty Barnes and Jesse van Dijk at Gamescom to mostly discuss concerns the community has about the game, although the article is sprinkled with some new information. Thanks DaDerga!
Gamestop posted a video of the exclusive red Sparrow you get for pre-ordering on youtube. Not anything new really, but if your pre-ordered from Gamestop you can see in detail what your ride will look like.
roland stopped by the forum to let us know that Guardian Radio #74 has been posted online. This week they went through the newly released trailers for Destiny with Datto. Great show as usual, go give it a listen!
While talking to TotalXbox.com Jonty Barnes cleared up a question a lot of Bungie fans have had about the leaked contract with Activision, namely: is Bungie working on a new Marathon game.
“I think it’s very hard to imagine anything detracting from our focus on Destiny right now, I think we've got really ambitious plans going forward."
Playstation Access sat down with DeeJ at Gamescom to  discuss the beta as well as the future of the game. Some interesting tidbits in there, including that Destiny will launch with 10 competitive multiplayer maps!
Before he was DBO-fied, Xenos let us know that Joystiq posted a little interchange with Bungie's Jonty Barnes, Director of Production, mostly concerning the first Destiny expansion, The Dark Below. There's also a few other details about the Beta, and how Bungie will keep upgrading and growing Destiny consistently as opposed to just releasing it, a few DLC, and moving onto the next project.
We're going to change the game after launch in a frequency that we think makes sense, and that isn't going to be dependent on The Dark Below."
Xbox Achievements posted a short little write-up detailing their experience with Destiny at Gamescom. Nothing really new here, but if you're in a Destiny drought, here's a few more words to help keep the pain away.
Jonty Barnes sat down with The Sixth Axis at Gamescom to discuss how well the Destiny beta went, and how that will affect the game in the long run. A lot of good information on topics that haven't been thoroughly covered elsewhere!
This is getting a little long in the tooth... but hey, beautiful work is beautiful work! RandomMistakes was at the San Diego ComicCon this year, and represented Destiny pretty nicely as a Hunter! Full gallery of pics at Imgur.
